Our garden group focuses on ways to link gardening to mental health promotion, physical activity and healthy eating. Throughout the summers, participants in the garden programs make new connections and learn new skills.

The garden group meets weekly in the summer months on Wednesdays, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. We usually start in May and run until early October.

We cover a range of garden activities including: planting seeds, watering and weeding, composting, building stakes and trellises, and harvesting what we grow. We have a snack each week and share the harvest to take home. Sometimes the group meets in the kitchen for a cooking lesson based on what’s fresh in the garden.

The garden is made up of four large raised beds and many smaller planters on the south side of the CTCHC building. The garden was built in 2010 and has grown a mixture of vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers, and native and medicinal plants.

The garden group aims for about 10-15 gardeners, internally referred by providers. Garden group members receive TTC tokens for coming to the group. The garden is wheelchair accessible with raised beds and flat pathways.

For more information about the garden group, please call (416) 703-8482 ext. 2233.
